1. Purpose
CMS Africa Summit firmly advocates for a community that is inclusive and open to all. We commit ourselves to curating a friendly, secure and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, religion, age, social class, preferred operating system, programming language, or text editor, among other identifiers.
This code of conduct delineates our expectations for participant behavior and the ramifications of unacceptable conduct.
We extend an invitation to all sponsors, volunteers, speakers, attendees, and other participants to aid us in creating a safe and positive conference experience for everyone.
2. Open Source Citizenship
An ancillary goal of this code of conduct is to foster open-source citizenship by inspiring participants to acknowledge and strengthen the connections between their actions and the wider community.
To serve this aim, CMS Africa Summit organizers will be inviting nominations for outstanding citizens during the event and will acknowledge selecting participants after the conference on the website.
If you observe someone making an extraordinary effort to ensure our community is welcoming, friendly, and encouraging all participants to contribute to the greatest extent possible, we would like to know.
3. Expected Behavior
- Demonstrate consideration, respect, and collaboration.
- Avoid demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech.
- Stay mindful of your environment and of your fellow participants. Alert the conference organizers if you notice a hazardous situation or someone in distress.
- Engage in an authentic and active manner. In doing so, you help shape the CMS Africa Summit and make it your own.
4. Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behaviors include intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning conduct by any attendees of CMS Africa Summit and related events. All CMS Africa Summit venues may be shared with the public; please show respect to all patrons of these locations.
Harassment encompasses offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or disability; inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images in public spaces (including presentation slides); deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
5. Consequences Of Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated, whether perpetrated by other attendees, organizers, venue staff, sponsors, or other patrons of CMS Africa Summit venues.
Anyone asked to cease unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately.
Should a participant engage in unacceptable behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including expulsion from the conference without warning or refund.
6. What To Do If You Witness Or Are Subject To Unacceptable Behavior
If you are subjected to unacceptable behavior, notice someone else being subjected to such behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify a conference organizer as soon as possible.
The CMS Africa Summit team will be available to aid participants in contacting venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing unacceptable behavior to feel safe for the duration of the conference.
7. Scope
We anticipate all conference participants (sponsors, volunteers, speakers, attendees, and other guests) to adhere to this code of conduct at all conference venues and conference-related social events.
